WhatStoneComing to iPhone and AndroidPoint your phone at a rock, crystal or shell to find out what it is.
WhatStone is an honest identifier we're building for iPhone and Android, with no subscription and no ads. It isn't in the App Store or Google Play yet.

How it works
Your first answer comes in seconds, with no intro video, no account and no ads before it.
- 1

Take a photo of your find.
- 2

See the most likely match, how sure the answer is, and the look-alikes to rule out.
- 3

Keep it in your collection with its photo, place, date and notes.
How you'll pay
Free to start
- Free starter scans with no account
- A plain "can't tell" or "not a rock" when that's the truth
- A free retake after a "can't tell"
Scan packs
- Packs of scans that never expire
- No subscription and no ads
- No free trial that turns into a yearly charge
- Bought only through Apple's or Google's own purchase prompt
WhatStone won't tell you what a stone is worth, whether a gem is real or whether a rock is a meteorite, because a photo can't settle those. It will show you how to check and when you need a jeweller, a gem lab or a museum.
Questions
When will WhatStone be out?
It isn't built yet and no release date has been announced. Leave your email above and we'll send one message when it launches.
Can it tell me if my gem is real or what it's worth?
No. A photo can't settle that. WhatStone will show you the checks you can do and tell you when a jeweller or a gem lab is the right next step.
What happens to my photo?
It's sent to our server only to answer that scan, and it's never used to train anything.
Will it work without a signal?
Identifying a new find will need an internet connection. Your saved collection will open offline.
How many free scans will I get?
That isn't decided yet, and neither are pack sizes or prices. There won't be a subscription either way.
