The longest F1 track, current and all-time circuits ranked

Spa is the longest F1 track on the 2026 calendar at 7.004 km and Pescara (1957) the longest ever. Every 2026 lap length ranked and checked, down to Monaco.

Updated 3 November 2026Checked against Formula1.com 2026 race pages, RacingCircuits.info, Honda, Motor Sport database, Nov 2026

Short answer

Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium is the longest track on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar, at 7.004 km a lap. The longest F1 has ever raced on is Pescara, Italy, at 25.579 km, used once in 1957. Monaco is the shortest on the 2026 calendar at 3.337 km, and races such as 1955 and 1972 used a 3.145 km lap.

On the 2025 calendar Jeddah was third, at 6.174 km (Formula1.com, RacingCircuits.info). Formula1.com's own Jeddah article says 6.175 km. The Saudi Arabian and Bahrain Grands Prix did not take place in April 2026, so Baku is third this season. The Bahrain Grand Prix was later run at Sepang in Malaysia.

The 2026 calendar ranked by lap length

Formula1.com's 2026 calendar has 23 rounds. Each length below comes from the race's Formula1.com page and sits beside a second source. The laps column is Formula1.com's race lap count.

Spa is 803 m longer than Las Vegas and 2.1 times the length of Monaco. The longer the lap, the fewer laps in the race. Spa's race is 44 laps and 308.054 km, while Monaco's is 78 laps and 260.286 km.

Some places come down to a few metres. On Formula1.com's figures, Lusail, Madring and Miami are 7 m apart, and Yas Marina beats Albert Park by 3 m. Where a second source differs, the gap is 2 m at most, and it doesn't change the order.

The longest F1 tracks of all time

Goodwood's list of the five longest circuits and the per-race records in Motor Sport's database put them in the same order. The last column divides each lap by today's Monaco lap of 3.337 km, to show the scale. That arithmetic is ours.

# Circuit Used by F1 at this length Lap What the sources say Monaco laps
1 Pescara, Italy 1957 25.579 km 25.579 km (Formula1.com), 25.578 km (RacingCircuits), 25.579 km (Focus), 15.89 miles (Goodwood), 25.8 km (Guinness), 16.032 miles (Motor Sport) 7.7
2 Nürburgring Nordschleife, Germany Between 1967 and 1976 22.835 km 22.835 km (Racing Sports Cars), 14.189 miles (Motor Sport), 14.18 miles (Goodwood) 6.8
3 Spa-Francorchamps road course, Belgium 18 races (Goodwood), the last in 1970 (Formula1.com) about 14 km 8.761 miles in 1960 (Motor Sport), 8.77 miles (Goodwood) 4.2
4 Monza road course and banking, Italy 1955, 1956, 1960, 1961 (Goodwood) 10.0 km (1961) 6.2137 miles in 1961 (Motor Sport), 6.21 miles (Goodwood) 3.0
5 Sebring, USA 1959 8.37 km 5.2 miles (Motor Sport), 5.20 miles (Goodwood) 2.5

Use 25.579 km for Pescara. Formula1.com's Jeddah article gives that figure, and RacingCircuits, Focus and Goodwood agree with it to within 10 m. Motor Sport's 16.032 miles is 25.80 km, the same as Guinness's 25.8 km. Focus notes that the 25.8 km figure differs from the length in F1's official archives.

The race was on the calendar only because the Belgian and Dutch Grands Prix were cancelled. Stirling Moss won the 18-lap race for Vanwall. The other Italian circuits F1 has used are in our F1 tracks in Italy guide.

The Nordschleife held 22 German Grands Prix between 1951 and 1976, and its longest F1 layout was used from 1967 (Goodwood). The 1976 race lasted 14 laps. Don't confuse that lap with the Nordschleife open today. RacingCircuits.info lists the current Nordschleife at 20.830 km, about 2 km shorter than the lap F1 raced.

Old Spa used about 14 km of public roads, and Formula1.com names 1970 as its last year in that form. A shortened Spa returned in 1983 (Goodwood). Today's 7.004 km lap is about half the old one.

Monza's 10 km lap combined the road course and the banked oval. The 10.0 km is Motor Sport's figure for 1961. Goodwood gives one length for all four years, and the 1955, 1956 and 1960 races weren't checked one by one.

Sebring held one Grand Prix, in 1959. Our F1 tracks in the USA guide covers it, Las Vegas and the rest. Circuits are the biggest group of clues in GeoGrandPrix, our daily F1 game where every answer is a place on a globe.

The shortest F1 tracks

Monaco is the shortest circuit on the 2026 calendar. At 3.337 km it's 922 m shorter than Zandvoort, the next shortest.

Monaco used to be shorter still. Motor Sport's records give 1.954 miles (3.145 km) for both the 1955 and 1972 races, and Racing Sports Cars gives 3.145 km for 1972. The 1950 race used 1.976 miles (3.180 km). By 1973 the lap had grown to 2.037 miles (3.278 km).

We haven't checked every former layout, so this page doesn't name the shortest lap F1 has ever used. Three former circuits we checked had laps shorter than today's Monaco but longer than the 1955 and 1972 Monaco lap, on Motor Sport's figures:

  • Zeltweg, Austria, in 1964: 1.988 miles (3.199 km)
  • Long Beach, USA, in 1976: 2.02 miles (3.251 km)
  • Dijon-Prenois, France, for the 1974 French Grand Prix: 2.044 miles (3.289 km)

Which lap length to use, and why lists disagree

For a circuit on this season's calendar, use the Circuit Length on its Formula1.com race page, under CIRCUIT. It's the figure for the layout being raced that year. For a former circuit, look up the record for that year's race, and where records differ, take the figure most of them agree on. Circuit pages on RacingCircuits.info open on the latest layout. That headline figure may not be the one F1 used.

Besides a calendar change like the Saudi round above, a ranking goes wrong when it misses one of these:

  • A layout change. Yas Marina was 5.554 km until its 2021 rebuild and is 5.281 km now (Honda).
  • A mislabelled field. Motor Sport's race pages show the lap length under "Total distance", so the 18-lap Pescara race reads as 16.032 miles.

If you only need the order, Formula1.com alone is enough.
